Can Levonelle Cause Nausea, Dizziness And Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Oct 2015
Question: I took levonelle twice in one cycle and what I think was my period arrived a few days later than it should have. It started with a brown discharge and then red blood and back to brown, it seemed a fairly lighter than normal. It lasted around six days. Although it has stopped I am experiencing back ache, nausea and tiredness and slight cramping. I did a home pregnancy test three weeks after taking the morning after pill and it was negative. Should I be worried that I am pregnant, or it side effects of taking the pill twice in one cycle?

Brief Answer:
Mostly You are not pregnant, symptoms can be due to levonelle.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear Madam,
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have gone through your query.
I think I have understood your concern, I will try to suggest you the best possible treatment options.
1] First of all do not worry or do not get panic.
2] Let me tell you that Tab LEVONELLE is an proven Emergency contraceptive pill.
You need to take it within 12 to maximum 72 hours, after unprotected intercourse; if you do not wish to get pregnant.
3] Usually one dose in a cycle is enough. It works by making lining of the womb (Endometrium) unfavorable for pregnancy.
4] It usually alters date of your next expected menstrual cycle. Also, many women commonly experience irregular bleeding, headache, nausea, dizziness and abdominal pain. What you are experiencing, may be due to double dose of the pill. You can consult your local physician to get a prescription of tablets that will help to reduce hyper acidity, nausea.
5] As you have already started your periods and Urine Pregnancy Test (UPT) is also negative ; shows that tablet has served it's purpose.
6] I will suggest you to get proper sex counselling done. And use some kind of a suitable, effective contraceptive method. Use of barrier method (Condom) by the male partner will help to avoid unwanted pregnancy and will also protect from STDs.
7] This will help in avoiding emergency contraceptive pills, and will avoid its possible side effects and high dose of the medication in those pills.
If you have any query please refer back.
I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks
