Question : 1. I have a one month old baby and am breastfeeding her exclusively. I have been having some cold and cough and wanted to enquire if I can take medicines like LivoCetrizine. Will it pass on to my baby with the milk and what effect can it have?
2. Also, if you can tell me which over the counter medicines are unsafe to have while breastfeeding, it will be very helpful.
3. I have been severely constipated since delivery. I feel my iron tablets are causing this. I am currently consuming Livogen, Macalvit and Zincovite. Should I change my medicnes?

cetrizine safe drug
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam thanks for trusting health care magic.
You can safely take levocetrizine as it is harmless to the baby.
Many drugs are contraindicated in breastfeeding females like
Antibiotics except penicillin and cephalosporins, aspirin, cancer drugs etc but it's better if you consult your doctor or on this forum before consuming any medication till you are breastfeeding.
Constipation can occur due to iron and calcium both but they have to be taken post delivery so to relieve constipation
- drink lots of water specially after waking up in morning.
- consume lots of fruits and salads
- take iron with meals.
Wish you the best of health.
Take care.
