Can Lo Loestrin Fe Tablets Be Taken As A Contraceptive?

Question: Hi, I just ended my period earlier today and I had sex just now but the condom broke for the first time ever. I have Lo Loestrin Fe tablets readily available and I just want to know if I can take them as emergency contraception. I haven't been sexually active in a while and I am not currently on birth control. How many Lo Loestrin Fe tablets would I have to take to effectively use them as an emergency contraceptive instead of purchasing plan B in the morning?

Brief Answer: NO NEED TO TAKE EMERGENCY PILL IN SAFE SEX. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us. If your period ends today and you involve in sex just after that, then you are in SAFE zone. First 5 days after period are EXTREMELY SAFE if your previous cycle was regular with 28 to 32 days duration. In this case, you DON'T need to take additional emergency contraceptive pill and it can make your next cycle pretty irregular if you take pills without actual indication. Regarding your query, you can use Lo Loestrin Fe as emergency contraceptive pill which was used previously. However, it has more side effects like nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness and it is replaced by only progesterone containing emergency pills like Plan B. If you want to take those pill, then you would have to take 2 pills at once and 2 pills after 12 hours interval within 72 hours of unprotected sex.
