Brief Answer:
Start with a low dose of losartan...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking HCM!

Your BP is above the gold target (<140/90 mmHg) so the best way to do is to adjust therapy. Losartan is an ARB and a good choice to reach this goal.

If you were my patient i would probably began with a lower dose of losartan 25 mg per day and than titrating the dose till the BP was below 140/90 mmHg. By doing so i would avoid hypotension (BP <90 mmHg) which is a common side effect in such a case.

Hope this was of help!

Hi and thank you for following up!

Yes it's true Atenolol is used to control heart rate, but also it help to control BP to so continue with Atenolol and add Losartan 25 mg to therapy. Titrate the dose of Losartan till the BP will be below 140/90mmHg.

Hope that this was of help!

My BP seems to stay at a normal range all of the time, except for when I have an extremely stressfully bizarre day. Very rarely is it not normal. You're saying that If it spikes periodically I should still take the losortan. What if it makes my BP go below 100/60? Sorry. I have a pretty good doctor but....

Following suggestions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

I am happy to see that your bp is within normal range. This means that changes in your diet and lifestyle together with medications you are taking are giving their good effect.

It is normal to have increase bp when having a bizarre day. I advise not to measure your bp when you are extremely stressful. Wait until you calm down, then, monitor your bp.

You can take low doses at the begining, and we will see how it goes. If it will be more reduced causing hypotension, then, we will take it off. Otherwise, we will continue with the same dosage for some while.

Meanwhile, you will keep monitoring your bp, record the results and pass them to your doctor (you can pass them to me) for further evaluation. You can also write down the symptoms you might have: fainting, passing out, etc.

I am trying my best to give a second opinion based on the data provided by you. Your doctor has your full medical history, and would decide the best option for you.

Hope it helped! Let me know if I can assist you further!
