Brief Answer:
Meftal P only if fever does not responds to crocin

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I can understand your concern.
You may give meftal-p syrup(contains mefenemic acid)if fever dose not responds to crocin or it recurs in less than 6 hours. The average weight of 5 years old child is 15-18 kgs. Each 5 ml of Meftal P contains 100 mg of mefenemic acid. The maximum recommended dose is 25 mg/kg/day.This dose can be given at an interval of 8 hours. For 5 years old child 5 ml of meftal P will be sufficient.
Give meftal P only if fever does not respond to paracetamol, not on regular basis.Make a temperature chart to monitor the pattern of fever.Give him plenty of fluids to maintain proper hydration and it also helps in bringing down the temperature.
The most common cause of fever in this age is some viral infection(respiratory, intestinal or urinary).I would like to know the associated symptoms like cough, cold, burning urination or loose stools if any.
Management of underlying cause is also very important.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your child's speedy recovery.
Regards
