Can Metoprolol Cause Fatigue?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Oct 2016
Question: I am biking 30 to 50 kilometres about 3 times a week. I missed my metoprolol medication one day this week because i hadn't refilled the script on time. But that day, during biking i felt more energy and generally less fatigue. So my question is, does this medication reduce endurance? Im 57 and good shape, not overweight

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

Metoprolol is a very good medication for treating high blood pressure. This medication generally will decrease the peak heart rate your body can achieve with exercise and otherwise lowers your resting heart rate as well. This may contribute to some mild side effects of fatigue.

It is possible that missing the dose of this medicine may have contributed to the change in how you felt.

I would recommend that you discuss this with your doctor. it might be possible to lower the dose of this medication which may help you feel better while at the same time controlling your blood pressure.

I am glad to hear you are exercising regularly! Please continue to do so to maintain your excellent health.

Thank you again for sending the query.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga
