Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: My Mom is 85 and has very poor kidney function but not on dialysis yet. Her sleep is disturbed several times a night for the need to urinate despite limiting fluid later in the day. Would you treat with Myrbetric possibly, and what sleep Rx if any ?

Brief Answer:
let me know her creatinine and urea level

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your mother's situation.

In general when kidney function is poor there is low urine output and low frequency while she has more frequency. So we need to search cause for increased frequency of urine.

- Let me know her latest reports of renal function tests - creatininte and urea

- Does she have any physical problem/illness and are there any medicines going on? Please tell me name of the medicines.

Myrbetriq (mirabegron) can be used to treat her overactive bladder but caution is there if renal function is impaired and she has high blood pressure problem.

Xanax is very potent drug and chance of dependence is high. I recommend lorazepam or zolpidem for sleep if I were her treating doctor. These are safe medicines even if renal function is impaired.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
