Hello!
Thank you for the query.
We can not say that
Nexium is clouding evidence of
GERD. Nexium is used to treat GERD. It blocks stomach acid secretion so your symptoms of GERD do not appear. This is how it should be treated.
Barrets
Esophagus is not a condition which gives specific symptoms. Barrets esophagus is a change in esophageal wall (
intestinal metaplasia) caused by chronic stomach acid irritation of the esophagus wall. This leads to inflammation and can cause irreversible changes. Barrets esophagus increases risk of esophagus cancer. So answering your question, yes, Nexium intake without gastroscopy can cause that Barrets esophagus wont be diagnosed (as Nexium will cause lack of symptoms).
Here is what you should do:
- if you have GERD symptoms for a long time (like a year or so), gastroscopy is necessary to rule out
stomach cancer, esophagus cancer, Barrets esophagus,
Helicobacter Pylori presence
- if the symptoms have started recently, Nexium intake without the gastroscopy is not a mistake; if Nexium will cause no symptoms at all, gastroscopy is not necessary right now; but for sure it will be necessary in the future
You may also ask your doctor to have gastroscopy in sedation. You will be sleeping and wont remember anything.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
