                                    Brief Answer:
Did the CKD start before or after omeprazole
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Please let me know if the CKD was diagnosed before the start or after the start of Omeprazole for GERD. If it was before, omeprazole was not the cause. Was the cause of CKD determined? Most CKDs become worse with time and the elevation of blood creatinine value with time is the natural history of CKD.
Omeprazole rarely produces an interstitial nephritis which is a cause of CKD and progressive elevation of creatinine. So if the CKD started after you started omeprazole, it has to be considered in the causes irrespective of its rarity.

                                    Brief Answer:
Some conditions require long term acid suppression
Detailed Answer:
The duration of Omeprazole treatment is dependent on the condition for which it is taken.
For conditions like gastrinoma or ZE syndrome or Barett's esophagus are conditions that require long term acid suppression. Peptic ulcer and GERD would heal with a short duration of treatment like a couple of months. In such patients there may not be the need for long term strong acid suppression for symptomatic relief. This is a controversial area as some believe that long term acid suppression has untoward effects.
