Can Oxipor Be Used For A Long Duration?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Aug 2017
Question: I have been using coal tar 5% (Oxipor) and the 2% ointment (MG17) for my psoriasis for a couple months now. It says on the bottle not to use for prolonged periods of time without consulting a doctor. My question is what is considered prolonged use? Should I continue using coal tar daily or are there some risks or reasons that I should stop?

Brief Answer:
Have you had any rash?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

Long-term use of Oxipor can cause hair follicle problems called tar acne. This manifests with new skin bumps or acne in the treated areas. If you notice any of these changes, report to your doctor immediately for review. I will not recommend that you stop but will rather suggest that you talk about this to your doctor for continued review and guidance.

I hope this helps and guides. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
Note: Hope the answers resolves your concerns, however for further guidance of skin related queries consult our Dermatologist.Click here to book a consultation
