Can Panadol Be Taken For Nasal Congestion And Post Nasal Drip?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: I have the symptoms that imply the onset of a summer cold -- nothing major, but a sore throat, some post-nasal drip, a little bit of sniffly sinus, and general achy fatigue. My friend from Switzerland gave me some OTC pills that he said are good and not available in USA. The box is labeled Panadol, and the ingredient is pseudoephedrine paracetamol. What is it? Should I take it? -XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic, I share your concern and I will try to help you out in best possible way.
pseudoephedrine is a nasal decongestant which effectively reduces nasal congestion and post nasal drip. Paracetamol is acetaminophen used to reduce fever and headache which will usually be associated with cold and sniffy sinus. You can take this tablet for two days twice daily as it will effectively reduce symptoms which interferes with your doily work. If you are staying at home there is no need to take this tablet as the symptoms of common cold will subside on its own by 2 to 3 days.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. Revert back to me if you have follow up queries.

Thank you for your answer, I have read the package in more detail, each tablet contains 500mg paracetamolum and 30mg pseudoephidrine HCL. What dosage shall I take? I'm guessing: 2 tablets immediately, another two this evening, then repeat tomorrow (2 in the morning 2 in the evening) and then that's it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome back.
you will have to take one tablet in the morning and one in the night after food. You can stop it after 2 days as symptoms will subside on its own. In case if they don't, you can continue it for one more day and stop it.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
