Can Progestrone Injection Be Taken During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Wed, 27 Jul 2016
Question: Hello Doctor. My due date of periods was 27 XXXXXXX which I missed and did home test for pregnancy which was positive. Today, i.e. 7 july I went to doctor and she suggested me an ultrasound and prescribed me two tablets daily of Optogest 200, FOLIK-DHA (Having 5mg Folic acid, 200mg DHA and 1500mcg Methylcobalamin) and Aciloc RD 20mg. Along with this she prescribed Alivher (Sildenafil citrate tab) 3 times a day. Also I was given a progestrone injection. Please advise as so much medicines seems confusing.

Brief Answer:
meds have been rightly advised...explained.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
As on date you are 5 weeks + 5 days period of gestation and you have been rightly given progesterone support in form of optopgest and injection. Folic acid + ha is being given for preventing any congenital anomalies and DHA ideally should be given after 16 weeks of gestation for foetal brain development , but stores can be built from first trimester itself. Sildenafil citrate has been started as per new guidelines to allow adequate placentation and blood supply through uteroplacental vessels. So you may continue all and seek a dating scan with ultrasound after a week to check for arrival of foetal heart beat, which shall establish the viability of the foetus.
