Can Quetiapine Fumarate And Depakote Cause Hallucinations?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: Why would a person continue to have hallucinations, be admitted five times to the hospital and no doctor look into why I was hallucianating? Could Depakote and quetiapine flumarate have anything to do with it? I am just now well enough to search hospital records.

Brief Answer:
Quetiapine can decrease hallucinations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

You have your problems with hallucinations because you have stopped using Quetiapine.

Quetiapine is used to treat mental conditions. It can decrease hallucinations.

So if you can not handle with this problem I suggest you to talk with your doctor about taking it again.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

UPON AUIDING RECORDS 02/20/13 A NEUROGLIST, DR. XXXXXXX COLBURN, RECOMMENED MY DOCTOR TO CONTINUE TO TAPER AND DISCONTINUE QUETIAPINE DUE TO OSRTHOSTASIS/FALL RISK. WHEN I WAS UNABLE TO CARE FOR MYSELF I WAS GIVE UP TO 575 MG OF THE QUETIAPINE A DAY BY AN HONEST MISTAKE. YEARS AGO I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TRANIENT GLOBAL AMENIA - WHICH I VERY SELDOM HAVE. IT ONLY LAST A MATTER OF HOURS. WHEN I WAS A CHILD I HAD THE GRAND MALL SEIZURES. AS A RULE I HAVE ONE SEIZURE EVERY FIVE OR SIX YEARS. I WAS TAKING 1000 mg A DAY OF DEPAKOTE. THE NEUROGLIST REDUCED THIS 500 MG A DAY IN MARCH 2014. I HAVE NOT HAD A SEIZURE OR A HALLUCITATION SINCE. NOW TELL ME WHAT WAS CAUSING ME TO HALLUCINATE FOR FIVE MONTHS.

Brief Answer:
Limited blood flow may be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Hallucinations are not only associated with illness but can also occur in healthy individuals.

They are actually rather common and are often experienced by healthy people. Some medical studies showed that almost 7%–30% adults experience hallucinations.

However your symptoms may be caused by:

1. Blockage or reduction in the blood flow to the brain. When the blood supply is interrupted brain cells do not get enough oxygen and this is causing damage to the cortex of the brain. Usually affects people between the ages of 60 to 80.

2. Carotid artery blockage (you have two common carotid arteries one on each side of your neck) and is caused by atherosclerosis.

I would order for base line:
- carotid doppler ultrasound to check the condition of your arteries.
- CT scan of your brain.
Your local doctors will know about this test.

Thank you.
