Can Retinoid Cause Hair Loss?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: I have heard that retinoids/retinols can cause hair loss in people. I was wondering if that was true and if the amount of retinol in an OTC cream/serum (like Neutrogena) could cause hair loss.

Brief Answer:
Such creams are usually safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

Yes retinoids can cause hair loss but ONLY when they are in toxic doses , they do not cause hair loss in normal doses, In creams like Neutragina or other consmetics , there is minimal amount of retinoids allowed by controlling authorities which do not reach toxic levels, so there is no way it can cause retinoid related toxic hair loss.

There are less than 1% of people who do get hair loss with even non toxic dose but it is really rare and cause is not retinoid, it is allergy to retinoids or other ingredients of the cream. So in my opinion you can use such creams without any problem.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it.
