Can Rohypnol For Insomia Cause Vertigo?

Question: Hi Doctor,

I attended an event with a friend 2 months ago at which we were approached by 2 young women, one of whom immediately made a pass at my friend and pulled him away. As soon as he was gone, the remaining woman asked me, "What can of girl do you want?" Upon asking for clarification, she listed several ethnicities, "..white, black, Hispanic, Asian?"

This of course prompted me to ask her if she was a pimp. The woman simply changed the subject, but a few minutes later offered me her sample cup of beer to try. As we were at a sampling event, I accepted it. However, a few minutes later, the woman asked me (at least) 2 more times what kind of girl I wanted, stressing that all I had to do was tell her and she would "get her" for me.

I recall asking again if she was a trying to sell me a prostitute, but have no recollection of the evening beyond this point.

I slept for most next 2 or 3 days after this strange encounter, followed by about a 4 day period of insomnia. During this time I also experienced acute symptoms of vertigo, nausea, headaches and gastrointestinal problems. Although the other symptoms went away after the first week, I went to an emergency care clinic 10 days later due to the fact I was still experiencing acute vertigo and nausea on a daily basis and was unable to work.

Upon telling the urgent care doctor my story, he called the nearby Inova Hospital emergency room to request they prepare for my immediate arrival.

At Inova I was given a CAT scan, blood work, an eye exam, balance and coordination tests. The ER doctor then have me Meclizine for vertigo as well as medication for nausea. She then scheduled an appointment for me to see a neurologist.

Upon seeing the neurologist, I was scheduled for an EEG, or brain scan. According to the scan, I showed anomalous brain activity, which she said could be the result of my being given a date rape drug substance on the evening I encountered the aforementioned woman who was attempting to solicit sex.

One of the doctors I spoke with said I was likely given Rohypnol, which he stated can cause extended periods of vertigo. However, as it has been 2 months since this incident occurred, and I have never experienced any symptoms remotely similar to this before, I would greatly appreciate your opinion.

Thank you,
XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
will be relieved by 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, I understand your situation.
There is nothing to worry, all the symptoms will be gone by a couple of weeks.
If your symptoms get controlled with meclizine then its fine but in case not then take tablet cinnarizine 25 mg at night daily for another 15 days.
All the best.

Thank you, Dr. XXXXXXX I certainly will, but in your opinion, could Rohypnol have been the cause of all these symptoms, like the last doctor said?

Brief Answer:
wait for another month

Detailed Answer:
No most probably rophynol has precipitated the attack of acute vertigo (as you was already predisposed to the same).
But in either case the treatment will stay the same.
But in case it persists for more than a month then visit a neurologist again.
Take care.
