Can STD Be Contracted Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2016
Question: I received unprotected oral sex from a female one week ago. Since, I have had off and on dull aches above my testicles (mostly on the left side). I am worried about STDs and have been driving myself crazy. No other symptoms (no discharge, no burning, etc). Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Oral sex and STD

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having pain and discomfort following oral sex. This is unlikely to be a STD. The more likely thing is to contract a urinary tract infection after oral sex. But even then these are not very common. The testicular pain is completely unrelated to oral sex. You may have a strained testicle or muscle or you may have a small hernia. I would recommend that you first try an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or naprosyn to see if this stops the pain. If it does not then see your medical provider for additional testing.

In summary
1. No STD from oral sex
2. Possible bacterial urinary tract infection
3. Possible strained muscle or hernia
4. Try NSAID like ibuprofen or naprosyn
5. See medical provider if no improvement
