Question : Hi, several months ago I had protected sex with someone I didn't really know. I had unprotected oral sex for several minutes (I am female and was performing the oral) with this person but there was no ejaculation. I was tested via vaginal swab and was negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea, but failed to think that I could have contracted something orally. I have had no symptoms in my throat, however my lymph nodes have been swollen slightly along either side of my neck for some time (I had them checked and my Dr. was not concerned). My question is- what are the odds that I could have contracted an STD from this encounter, and could the swollen lymph nodes be an indication? Again, there are no other symptoms. I also do not have tonsils if this makes any difference. Also, should there be something lying dormant in my throat- can I pass it along to my new partner (male)? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Unlikely STD

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about contracting a STD from performing oral sex without ejaculation. There is a low risk of getting gonorrhea with performing oral sex on a person who has gonorrhea. Your doctor would need to take swab of your throat for culture. If your throat has not red areas or exudates (white patches) on the back of the throat then it is less likely that you have gonorrhea.

Lymph nodes small in the neck are very common in young adults and are do not indicate infection. It is if they get large swollen and painful that they are reacting to an infection. If your doctor didn't think they were enlarged then I would say that you are Okay
