Question : i have been taking serouel (generic) 50mg once at bed time for the last 10 years for bipolar disorder. Since last 2 months I have been noticing severe cravieng for sugary food within 30 minuts after taking the tablet and I have gined about 10 pounds. I am 66 years, male.I also have atrialfibrilation,and high blood pressure, for which I take eliques, 5mg b.i.d,and metaprolol 35mg, My question is are there any substitute medication without weight problems.

Seroquel can cause weight gain and diabetes. You should go for evaluation of diabetes through fasting blood sugar and Hb1ac check up.

Aripirazole or ziprasidone are with neutral or very negligible weight gain potential for bipolar disorder prophylaxis. You can ask your treating doctor for substitution.
