Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: I am taking Solitral one a day at bed time prescibed by doctor for 6 months. I am also been taking Natrilix, Envas 5mg and ASA for the last 20 years for BP control. My TMT is negative for the few years.
My complaint is that though my urination at night is ok but constipation & dry mouth are bit of a bother. I am taking ISABGOL once a day for contipation which is a help. Kindly advise if it is ok to take Solitral for 6 months. I was taking Flotral earlier.

Brief Answer:
Its not advisable to continue Solitral in my opinion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your query and concern.

Constipation and dry mouth are major side effects of Solitral. It contains two drugs dutasteride and alfuzosin.

These side effects are less prominent with Flotral which contains only alfuzosin which acts selectively on the bladder only minimizing the side effects.

Hence in my opinion its not advisable to continue Solitral for 6 months.
Switching to Flotral will be a better option. Discuss about this with your doctor.

Thank you.

I did have dry mouth complaint with Flotral but no issue re:constipation. Solitral does give me more evacuation, leading to relatively less no. of urination at night.
Are you suggesting that it may be harmful to take Solitral for as long as 6 months?

Brief Answer:
Solitral is not harmful as such

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

Its not harmful to take Solitral for 6 months.

But over this period you will be more prone to develop severe dry mouth, constipation.

But this side effects develops tolerance in many individuals.

In case if you find Solitral superior, you can use it for 6 months and take ISABGOL as usual.

Thank you.
