Can Statex Be Taken In Place Of Hydromorphone Without Any Side Effects?

Question: I have a long history of taking pain relief for Arthritis. This started in my late teens and progressed from over the counter to 50mg of Oxyneo twice a day with up to 30mg of 10mg Statex as well. Worked reasonably well until recently when my Nuropathy pain became worse. My medication has recently been changed to Hydromorphone Hcl 3mg plus Hydromorphone Hcl 2mg every 8 hours. I find it necessary to take 2 of the 2mg tablets at least once a day. I'll be 77 in July and I'm still working - mostly at my desk but sometimes installing Door Hardware. My question is how does my new medication compare to the old and would it be safe to use one 10mg Statex in place of the 2nd 2mg Hydromorphone.

Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Pain treatment for arthritis may be continued with hydromorphone if it suits you. It will be better to continue the second 2 mg tablet rather than adding statex if no side effects occurs.
For neuropathy at this age other etiologies should be looked like diabetes, myeloma or paraproteinemia, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy.
