Question : I have had 3 cultures that say I have stenotrophomonas maltophilia. All three antibiotics I was on didn't work. Is this a superbug? It was discovered after a routine uti test. I have a very inflamed and bleeding urethral opening. Is this due to the infection?
Brief Answer:
To rule out local urethral pathology

Hi

If the urethral bleeding is XXXXXXX blood and not urine mixed with blood , it important to rule out local urethral pathology like carbuncle as cause of bleeding.
Apart from attributing the cause to more virulent bacteria it is important to rule out local urethral pathology. If on inspection there is no visible pathology further assessment by cystoscope will be required.
Take care
