Can Suboxone Be Taken A Day Before HIDA Scan?

Question: I had a HIDA scan scheduled for this morning but it was cancelled because I took suboxone this morning. It is re-scheduled for 10am tomorrow. Should I take a full 8mg strip right now (9:30am) and nothing for the rest of the day, or is the half-life too long on suboxone? In other words, is it okay to take one final (large) dose, or should I just tough it out until after the test is done? Thanks!
Brief Answer:
Not advisable.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.
The elimination half life is around 37 hours (20-73). Opioids are not advisable during HIDA scan. Opioid can affect the sphincter which opens the bile into intestine. It also relaxes smooth muscles, and could give wrong results.
I think you you should tough it out with another non-opioid analgesic.
Any further queries, happy to help again.

Okay thank you for your response. I asked this question twice by accident (new to the app), and another doctor told me it was fine to continue taking my dose, but you described it the same way they did at the hospital so obviously you know more about it than the first doctor who responded. But unfortunately in the meantime I had already taken a full 8mg strip at about 24.5 hours prior to the test because he said it was okay. Do you think it will be okay to follow through with the test anyway? I will not take another dose between now and the test.
On a side note, all ultrasound results seemed fairly certain that there was enough "sludge" in the gallbladder that it needs to come out. Until I switched to a totally liquid/pudding/banana type diet I was having terrible stomach and back pain almost constantly, ranging from dull pain to extremely severe.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
you may get it, test not 100% perfect

Hi,
Thanks for asking again.
Assuming a 20 hour half life, you can get the test done.
However, if no abnormalities are found, repeat maybe necessary.
Hope it helps.
