Question: Hi Doctor,

I am currently in 13th week of pregnancy and I had a bout of sinus headache. It was unmanageable with the pain so I took one tablet of sudafed (pseudoephedrine Hcl -120mg). Is this safe, please help.

Brief Answer:
It will not affect your baby.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Sudafed is not safe during the 1st trimester of pregnancy because it may cause abdominal abnormalities in the baby.

As you took only one dose and in the second trimester, most likely it will not affect your baby.

Get your second level ultrasound to see foetal well being.

Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.

Thanks for your response. I had my first ultrasound on March 20 and the next one scheduled on May 30th. Is may 30th fine for the next follow up for ultrasound or should we be getting another ultrasound in between.
