Brief Answer: Very rare Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about this diarrhea that you have been experiencing. Diarrhea as a side effect of this drug is a very rare side effect. If this diarrhea started shortly after starting treatment with azantac, then the time frame may be suggestive of this. In this case, I will recommend you pause for a few days and see whether the symptoms would keep going on or they would stop. If they should stop, then it is most likely this medication and if it should persist, then we would need to look for a different possible cause. Intermittent diarrhea may suggest a problem with the bowels as well. Have you had a screening colonoscopy already? If not, please consider getting one as you are already into the age bracket that requires this. I hope this helps. i wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be. Thanks. Dr. Ivo, MD.
