Can Zoloft Be Taken Instead Of Citalopram When Feeling Jittery?

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: I have been taking 40 mg citalopram daily for 7 yrs. I ran out two days ago and can't refill before tomorrow due to the holiday. Feeling mildly "jittery". Can I safely take an equivalent dose of my wife's Zoloft, and what's the equivalent dosage? No other health issues.

Brief Answer:
no specific equivalent dose you can take maximum 100 mg zoloft per day

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

There is no specific equivalent dosage of citalopram to zoloft. However from clinical experience I can say that you can take 100 mg zoloft per day in stead of citalopram 40 mg to avoid discontinuation symptoms. I recommend to start with 50 mg if you feel relief it is ok or else you can take more 50 mg after 8 hours.
Inform your treating doctor also about this aspect.
