Can A Biopsy Indicate Stomach Cancer Due To Excedrin Usage?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2017
Question: Hello, I went for an endoscopy because of indigestion for most of my life. I'm 65 yrs. of age. My doctor showed me the pics & there were small lines of blood in the folds of my esophagus. He indicated it could be due to my usage of Excedrin, 4 a day, over many years, for headaches. He said he did a biopsy. Does the fact that he did a biopsy indicate I could have stomach or esophageal cancer or other kind of cancer? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
no

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

biopsies are taken even if no lesions are present. A biopsy may help to diagnose various kinds of disorders. Tumors is just one of them. Whenever a lesions is present the doctor always takes a biopsy (from the lesion). When no lesions is visible the doctor may take biopsies from any part of the organ.

Excedrin may indeed cause gastrointestinal issues.

So the answer is that biopsies are taken in almost every patient and definitely from every lesion. Cancer is always a concern but there is no suspicion in your case according to your description.

Kind Regards!
