Question : 44 year old female. Was diagnosed with an anal fissure about a month ago. I have increased water anf fiber and taken 2.5 hydrocortisone cream. Intense burning pain has subsided but I am still feeling itchy and have a sensation of pressure in my anal area. Can a fissure last for weeks and should I be concerned. It is very uncomfortable

Yes, anal fissure can last for a longer time and can be recurrent.
The sensation of pressure in the anal area is due to anal sphincter spasm.
You can do the following for relief-
1. High fiber diet - include lot of vegetables, fruits and prune juice
2. Take fiber supplements like metamucil
3. Take stool softener like Colace
4. Drink lot of fluids
5. Do sitz bath for 10 minutes twice a day
6. Apply viscous lignocaine to anal verge to relieve discomfort
7. Apply topical diltiazem to anal verge to relieve anal sphincter spasm
