Brief Answer:
In FND symptoms are encountered mostly during the awake period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to “Ask a Doctor “ service.

I have read your question.

Functional neurological disorder symptoms such as motor symptoms (tremor, limb paralysis, etc. ) happen mostly when the person is awake.

Chocking and aspiration during sleep are not typical symptoms of a functional neurological disorder.

In my opinion, before leaving the culprit to the functional neurological disorder, other reasons for such symptoms (such as cerebral ataxias, Chiari malformation, multiple sclerosis, etc.) should be considered and tested further.

Discuss with your Neurologist these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
