Can A History Of Nerve Palsy Lead To Double Vision?

I am seeing double vision. I was told i have cranial 6th nerve palsy. I am seeing double from only my left eye. I had an MRI which was negative. They only found severe sinus infection. I just finished steriod and antibiotics. I also just had a CT scan and it looks like I still have the sinus infection. The double vision continues and i have pressure in my left eye ball. What other tests can I do and do you recomment I do ?? To find the root cause??? I just read that i might have binocular diplopia because the double vision is only when i have both eyes open and not one. I also read this is caused by extra ocular muscles and requires evaluation to find out the cause of paresis or paralysis. Could you recommend what doctors to see and what tests to do??? Do i need a kidney ultra sound?? My double vision started in February of 2018. I don't know why and the doctors have no answers for me. Please help.
Thank you.
It may be due to sixth nerve palsy. See details.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As you have double vision i. e. Diplopia of only left eye and history of sixth nerve palsy. So I think this may be because of nerve palsy. As it may affect one or both eyes.
As you already underwent MRI and these reports are normal, so we can easily rule out neurological causes. Other causes may be refractive errors, cataract, dry eyes, but having fewer chances as per your history.
Treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. It may improve over time if caused because of the viral or bacterial infection.
Do you have a history of diabetes as diabetic neuropathy is one of the causes of palsy? Kindly follow up with detailed history.
So I will suggest you consult with a neurologist for detailed examination and proper diagnosis. You may require ophthalmologist opinion.
Do complete blood count, random blood sugar level and CSF studies after consultation. I don't think that you may require an ultrasound abdomen. You may apply an eye pad over the affected eye.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Thank you for your response.
I'm 37 years old and don't have a history of 6th nerve palsy. I've never seen or had double vision till this February. The opthamologist in March of 2018 said it was 6th nerve palsy. This is the first time in my life i am seeing double. Never before had I seen double vision or told i had nerve palsy. I think there was a miscommunication as though I have always had this and I have not.
Please let me know how this changed things??
Kindly confirm it by neurologist.
Detailed Answer:
