Question : Hello, doctor. I suffer with severe anxiety/nervous tension. My doctor prescribed a low dose of xanax but even at a very low dose, it is making me dizzy with nausea. I also have leg pain - cramping, aches, etc. My doctor suggested Klonopin but before I make the change, I just read online and heard from a friend that Klonopin can induce and/or worsen leg issues. Could u please give me your feedback on that one specific side effect (being leg pain) in terms of xanax vs klonopin? Thanks so much.
Brief Answer:
it's the same I'm afraid
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Although xanax and klonopin have different active substances, they belong to the same drug class and they share the same side effects. Klonopin is likely to cause the same side effects as xanax. Their main difference is in their half life which is longer for klonopin which means that its effects may last for longer. Despite that I should also note that sometimes there are individual differences in side effects rates between drugs - and patients as well. If xanax is unbearable for you, perhaps you can give klonopin a try.
