Can A Small Prick From A Needle On The Foot Cause Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: I had to take my shoe off in the parking lot after work. I put my food down and stepped on something that hurt a little but i just thought it was a pebble and quickly put my shoe on. I check my foot and it didn't appear to bleed. when I got home I couldn't see any cuts. I saw this around the same area the next day. all I can think is that it is a needle? I have searched my foot and haven't seen any red marks or holes. what is risk of infection.

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Plantar foot injury / Under Evaluation

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your facts in context to your health concerns about infection at injured site in the foot.
Reviewed your enclosed picture of some blunt object(yellow coloured),which has injured your foot.

My Impression-
After review of the object in the enclosed picture of the object which injured your bare foot, seems to be blunt.Unless picture of the foot is received,Its really difficult to comment on risk of infection in the injured foot location.

Update More details and foot picture-
Please give more details -about the location of foot injury.
Please update the picture of the plantar foot, to locate the extent of injury foot injury, to reply your health query.

I did not step on that. my fear is that I stepped on a dirty needle and didn't realize it, mistaking it for a pebble. there were no marks that I noticed when I got home. I got scared it was a needle after seeing the orange object...thinking it could be a needle cap?

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Don't worry at all ...just forget it !!

Hi,Dear !! Thanks for the updates.

My Opinion-
In view of the submitted fact,You seem to suffer from Phobia-from probable dirty needle-which is confirmed to be not there-as seen from the picture of the yellow/orange object.
Dear, from the inspection of the orange object and from the submissions in your update-that you never had any scratch mark at the injured foot site,I would suggest you to wind up the fear of infection from this foot blunt injury.
There seems to be no risk of any infection, when you have not touched or even stepped on that orange object.

Do's Suggested-

As there is no risk, nothing is to be done, if you have taken preventive Tetanus booster shot lately.(with in last 10 yrs)
Wait and watch and report if any infection is feared.

Don't Worry at all ..just forget it !!

Next appointment-
Any time In case of any further emergency /
or after 1 week time,by that time you would come out and would be reviewed for further plan of treatment, if need be.

ok. I just thought that the orange cap looked like a needle cap. is that what it is? I stepped on something but was not sure. would I be sure if I stepped on a needle? also would it be possible for the mark or scratch to be small or heal up very quickly, so I would not notice? you are saying no risk of hi of hcv?

thank you!!!!

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-?Plantar foot injury / Under Evaluation

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your update queries.
Dear I haven't yet received picture of the foot site where the orange cap had hit?but you aren't sure?

Would reply update queries as follows-
Q-1-orange cap looked like a needle cap. is that what it is? I stepped on something but was not sure. would I be sure if I stepped on a needle?

Ans-1-The orange cap doesn't look like needle cap.And as you are not sure of your stepping on that cap,Only foot picture or physical examination from family doctor would confirm the injury from that orange cap.Only after that risk could be assessed and needful further suggestions could be given to you.
Therefore-Dear,I would give reply after review of picture of the foot, which you fear had come in contact with it.
So please update the picture of the injured foot in question.

Q-2- also would it be possible for the mark or scratch to be small or heal up very quickly, so I would not notice?

Ans-2-This reply could be given after seeing the picture of the foot which hit this orange cap.So please update the picture of the suspected foot injury.
Dear, I stand by the reply given in last session, that there is No risk,as no injury has occurred,as per your submissions.

Q-3-you are saying no risk of hi of hcv?
Ans-3-Dear,When you submit, that you have not placed foot on the orange cap, then there is no risk of hiv / or hcv.
This risk occurs from the pricking injury of the used needles used for hiv / or hcv infected patients and transmits through the blood transmission of the broken skin.
But in your case, you haven't had any contact with the orange cap,as submitted by you in last updates and this updates, also.
So just forget and come out of this anxiety and phobia.

Do's Suggested-
Consult the family doctor and verify physically about the foot injury.
