Can Adderall Usage Be Detected In The Urine Or Blood Test?

Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: I consider this to be a confidential consult that creates the temporary doctor/patient relationship established by my payment for your medical advice. I have a question about prescription adderall. I am prescribed to take it but only do so rarely because I can function without accept under certain circumstances. I've taken it 4 or 5 times XXXXXXX over the past 4 to 5 months; the last time being 2 weeks ago. I usually only take a half or quarter of a 30mg whenever I do take it. I have an upcoming hair drug test for work and was not sure if I should bring in a script or mention this to them incase the medication is at a high enough level to show up. I would prefer not to disclose that I have taken it, so there is no bias regarding them thinking I have a disorder. I also take dietary supplements on a regular basis ( I'm into fitness), should I report those too or will none of this show up in a test, due to the low doses I have taken? I've done minor research and saw that hair tests are used to detect consistent use more than infrequent use, so I would like to avoid disclosing initially and then provide a script if asked about it. I just do not want the employer thinking I rely on meds. Please give me your medical opinion.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. However I would require a couple of more details to help you in answering your query in a better justified way. 1. What is the content of your nutritional suppliment that you are taking? 2. How strongly do you feel that they will ge biased if they get to know tht you have adhd? 3. Any other substance use? Hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience. The dietary supplement I am taking is called cyclo-shred which is a GNC product. I would prefer not to disclose any meds because this is a Fortune 500 company and would prefer them not to know. Other facts are I workout 4-5 times a week high intensity and I do not take any other substances.

Brief Answer: Your concerns are justified Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for all the additional information that you have provided. Your concerns are justified. If it was a urine test of a blood test then the thing could have gone undetected. However in the testing of hair with a exposure 2 week back, there is a 20-30% chance of the substance being detected as there were multiple exposures in the past. Ideally the best way would be to disclose the fact to your hiring people with the attached medical report stating that the use of substance is not for recreation but has been used for medical reasons. I understand that there is a risk of getting biased. The second option would be to just go through, and if the issue comes up then you may explain them the medial issues. If I was in your place, I would have gone with the second option and take my chances. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
