Brief Answer:

Muscle aches and pain can occur with infection

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Joint pain or stiffness can accompany a viral or bacterial infection involving the respiratory tract (cold or flu).

In addition to the pain that can occur with these infections, slight jerking or tension of the neck can occur with repeated coughing which can contribute to the pain especially if there is underlying arthritis of the neck.

Paracetamol/Tylenol or ibuprofen or naproxen can help with pain relief.

A mucolytic such as Mucinex or Bisolvan would help to break up the mucus in your airway. Using enough fluids would also be helpful as well.

Some persons may require the use of antibiotics so if there is no change in your symptoms, you may need to consider seeing your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
