Question : can being 50 lbs overweight cause bad backache, tightness and bloating in the stomach and under the breasts, and little stabbing pains in the stomach area now and then

Hi,

It can cause backache. It can also be associated with symptoms of reflux, persons may have the typical burning in the chest but may experience other reflux symptoms such as bloating and tightness.

This is the reason that weight loss is one of the recommended treatments for reflux in persons who are overweight or obese.

There are other causes of these symptoms as well and they should be thoroughly assessed. Imaging of the back by x ray or more in depth imaging eg MRI, may be needed to assess the back.

Abdominal examination and review of foods in the diet that may cause bloating may also need checking
