Question : I have hypothyroidism and am taking armour thyroid 90 mg and its been working so well. I want to take a low dose birth control to fix my very irregular period but i am afraid it will affect my thyroid in a negative way and make me fat.
Brief Answer:
No issues with Contraceptive pills
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
Now a days, most birth control pill has low dose estrogen which doesn't cause weight gain. It doesn't interfere with the absorption of Armour thyroid as well. However,. I must say that Armour thyroid is an animal derived thyroid preparation which is very crude and difficult to titrate. Now a days, most endocrinologists including myself prefer Synthroid over Armour thyroid.
