Question : Hi. I just had a test result come back positive for chlamydia and I was wondering:
what are the chances for a false positive?
and
how long a person can have it and not know. I have only been with my partner for four months and wonder if it can pre-date our meeting.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
First, false positive results for standard std test for chlamydia are rare and may happen in 1 of 200 cases. If you have any doubts you can repeat test but I don't think this is necessary.
Second, yes it may be dormant in vaginal area for months, even up to 1 years and rarely more than that. So it is possible to be infected before. However, the best option would be to test your partner. Wish you good health. Regards
