Can Cold Symptoms Be Transferred To A Newborn From The Mother During Breastfeeding?
My baby boy will be 4 months old on 22nd september and is exclusively breastfed. Since last two days i have noticed that his voice has changed drastically. It has become quite hoarse and low. He is also spitting up more than usual since last 5 days. He constantly touches his ears when i feed him.
Because of weather change, i have been suffering from cold and cough since last 3-4 days.
Is my son also suffering from cold ? There are no other noticeable symptoms other than what i mentioned above.
Or could it be because of extra spit up which even came out of his nose along with his mouth 2 days back ?
Can i give him naso clear drops for relief ? how and when it should be administered ?
Shll i be taking him to his doctor or he should be fine on his own ?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases. Irrespective of treatment it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days.
You need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear Saline Nasal Drops in case of nose block. Just insert the nozzle in the nostril and press. Thats it.
There is a thin tube on each side connecting between the inner throat and the middle ear (Eustachian tubes). The purpose of these tubes is to equalize the air pressure inside the middle ear cavity. When we catch a cold (most often due to viral and/or allergic cause), the respiratory secretions or mucus gets thickened. Mucus block of these tubes leads to pressure imbalance in the middle ear and that could be the reason that the child is touching the ears. Steam inhalation should help. Just sit with him before the source of the steam. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the mucus and thus would provide relief from the ear ache as well.
I do not suppose that the extra spit up has any role to play.
Unless the situation seems to worsen you can wait.
