Brief Answer: 3days is largely sufficient Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I understand your worries with being able to get your licence without any worried of alcohol. The daily intake of alcohol is not too excessive to make you fail a DVLA test. However, just to keep on the safest side of things, 3days would be more than enough not to get worried. Not drinking alcohol is not a pre-requisite to obtaining a driver's license. What matters is you not drinking when you have to drive because of the huge risks of accident associated with driving under alcohol influence. Please, excess alcohol consumption is not good for health. May I kindly suggest that you drop your daily consumption? I hope this helps. I wish you well with your dvla test. Feel free to ask for more clarification and information if need be. Thanks for using our services. Dr. DITAH, MD.

Thank you so much for coming back to me. Since my ban from driving two years ago my alcohol consumption have go up. the more realistic amount that i have been drinking is more like 4 or 5 times a week, usually 3 cans and very rarely 6. when i was at university around 2004-2006 i would be binge drinking at the most i could handle about 6-8 pints in the weekends and occasional heavy drink season. during that time one day i noticed water in the toilet bowl blood read. so i stopped drinking and forgot all about it and started to drink in 2008 and noticed i would find blood if i drank spirit, so i stopped drinking spirit and stuck to beer. but now i am noticing clump of blood at times on my stool, and I have slight abdominal pain on my right side. could this be liver damage?

Brief Answer: Blood in stools alone is not exactly liver damage Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks for following up with me. Blood in stools alone is not a sign of liver damage. That tells you how destructive alcohol is to the body cells. Just like we use alcohol to burn and kill germs in the hospitals, that is exactly what happens when you have so much of it in your body... just that here it kills the same cells we very much need for our good being. If you can actually cut down your alcohol intake, it would be a very good idea. If you continue like this, I am pretty sure you would come down with alcohol related complications very soon. I will advice that you get your liver enzymes evaluated and you would be surprised at how high your numbers would turn out to be. You need to imagine someone with all the alcohol related complications and understand that you are better off avoiding getting there than ever being there. I do not know how to put it in any stronger terms but, a word to a wise is sufficient. Alcohol and tobacco the greatest legalised killers! I wish you well. Sorry if I may have come across as being very hard on you but, believe me it is entirely in your best interest. i long to see you live healthy into your old age. I wish you well. Feel free to keep the discussion going and ask more related questions if need be. Dr, DITAH, MD.

Yes, you are right it seam normal to drink a lot of alcohol in our cultural. I did stop drinking for few years and started flowing the crowed again. so I intent to drink occasionally and no more than 3 pint. So what would be your advise regarding when I should take the LFT test if I stop drinking completely?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (12 minutes later)
Brief Answer: Now and 3months after stopping! Detailed Answer: i want you to have objective data to say this is what my LFT numbers looked like before i stopped drinking and what it looks like after stopping. This will give you the real meaning when we say alcohol is clearly not a good thing to get indulged in. Drinking socially to keep company and celebrating once in a while is a great way to keep going. I will like you to communicate these numbers to me once you get them. Don't get me wrong, this is not to look for a disease and treat right now but it is just to show you what is going on behind the scenes after drinking high amounts of alcohol. What is your weight and height? There is jsut so much that we can go on talking about but i will pause for now and follow up with you when the numbers trickle in. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Brief Answer: Running would not make any difference here Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks so much for this follow up query. Significant drop in your alcohol consumption would be very helpful to you. Running has no direct impact on any potential increased levels of your liver enzymes. Your weight is perfect. Congratulations on that. I had expected this to be higher rather than this perfect. Hope this helps. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Hi Dr, I have taken your advise and decided to stop drinking until my test results; and there after to drink very occasionally. I Have started to take herbal supplement along with normal diet, such as: flxseed, sunflower seed, pumpkim seed, milk thistle, dandelion, turmeric omega 3 and n-acetyl l-carnitine with alpha lipoic acid, and also I am starting a 15 day detox tablets called BioFirm (Danish detox plan) with my normal diet; which started 3 months ago, consisting of fruit and veg. Can this Improve my liver function and lower my liver enzymes?

Brief Answer: Yes, stopping drinking is a great step! Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks for following up with me. I am extremely happy to hear you would be taking a very positive step to significantly drop your alcohol consumption. This in itself would be very helpful in stopping any further assault on the liver and restoring the levels of the various disease markers to normal. I am not familiar with this detox diet but, so long as you are comfortable with the information you received regarding its safety and expected results, then go on. I hope this helps and motivates you to keep on with efforts to control how much alcohol you drink. Should you need further assistance on the way to control this, please feel free to call on me and I will be right there to address the worry or difficulty. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Brief Answer: Thanks Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you for this follow up query. This description is not very clear to me as to what part of the body you are talking about. Also, what side of the body and what the nature of this discomfort is like burning, dull, ache, electrical, etc. What provokes it and what makes it better? The location would be very helpful to me and I will that you upload a picture with a precision on this part so that I can be sure we are talking of the same structures. I hope you understand the importance of this further precision so that I can provide sensible and well intended information than a generic and vague response. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Very dull pain on right side of the body more to the side of the body and towards the hip. From looking at the human anatomy it would be the beginning part of the large intestines. i doesn't fee like muscular pain. alcohol seem to bring it on

Brief Answer: could this be chronic appendicitis? Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this precision. The organs present in this area are the caecum, terminal ileum, appendix and the ascending colon. Further behind, we have the tubes that carry urine away from the kidneys to the bladder. A problem with one of these organs could be the possible cause. This requires a detailed examination and maybe investigations. The organ in this area that often causes the greatest problem is the appendix. I will like you to mention this to your doctor when you next show up for your physicals. This would prompt for a detailed examination and investigation if need be. Try Ibuprofen and Paracetamol for this pain to see whether it helps. I hope with you planning to stop alcohol consumption, there would bee no more provoking factor and this would greatly help as this is the main provoking factor. I hope this helps and I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
