Posted on Tue, 21 Nov 2017
Question: I stopped taking my pravastatin because I just couldn't stand to hurt that bad any more. Of course, everything shot up. Cholesterol level is at 300. What do you suggest? I'm 70 years old with high blood pressure, and
Barrett's esop.

Brief Answer:
try other statins

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You should better try other statins also before you quit like rosuvastatin or atorvastatin.
I suggest Co A enzyme supplements like CoQ 10 supplements.
I still suggest red yeast rice and vitamin b12 , vit D supplements to my patients who do not tolerate statins and fibrates.
You should definitely ask your doctor about them. They may not be as effective as statins but good enough for mild to mod cholesterol levels.
