Can Excessive Body Weight Restrict The Endurance For Exercise?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: I am a heavy man.120 kg. I try to walk or run at least 8 km three times a week. I went on a hiking tour in the Alps a few weeks ago. I consider myself in good form. But I am too heavy. I know that.
Somehow I struggle to get my running form going. I can run/jog for about 1 km, but then I have to stop and rest. But it is not because I'm out of air, it is because my legs don't want to carry me further.

I just find it strange that no matter how much I run/jog/walk, I never get more than a 1 km run.

Brief Answer:
To rule out vascular cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir

Excessive weight and unaccustomed physical activity may restrict the endurance for exercise, especially more so if the intake of electrolytes is not adequate .

Apart from this, other associated abnormality like varicose veins or peripheral vascular disease needs to be ruled out as cause of symptoms. I would suggest you to get a thorough physical examination from your primary care physician and also doppler vascular scan based on clinical finding for further assessment.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care

The question is: Is it normal for me to feel like that? I want to try half marathon next year, but I only seem to be able to run 1 km.

I don'y like it.
