Can HCG Hormone Be Detectable Throughout The Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jun 2014
Question: My question refers to HCG levels in pregnancy.if a PREGNANT woman tests for example again at 5,6,7,8 months during her pregnsncy, will this still cause a positive result on the pregnancy test as I'm aware that hcg levels tend to decrease after 12 weeks. Wi there still be detectable hcg levels to trigger a postitive on the pregnamcy test even after this time ?thanks

Brief Answer:
hCG hormone can be detectable throughout pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
HelloXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM

Yes,hCG hormone can be detectable throughout the pregnancy. It is responsible for pregnancy symptoms in early pregnancy.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone produced by the
syncytiotrophoblast. This is a pregnancy specific hormone.

hCG level rises consistently until around 10-12 weeks of gestation and then they tend to plateau(becomes static),or it may even drop off. So,it can be detectable throughout the pregnancy.
HCG levels in early pregnancy usually get double every 2-3 days.

Hope I have answered your question.

Hello XXXXXX

Young females usually do not know when they are about to start menstruating for the first time (called as menarche) and then often females have irregular menstrual cycles after they begin menstruation.

Pregnancy occurs when the egg is fertilized by the sperm around a window of time known as ovulation.Ovulation occurs prior to getting period by females. So, if someone have sex before her period ever started, and let us assume that she is ovulating for the first time (which she would most likely not know) then there is chance of pregnancy.
So,young adults are always advised for protected sex.

No,pregnancy is possible before the first period.
I try to explain the things.
Normally ovulation occurs around 14 days before menstruation. After ovulation ,ovum is ready for fertilization and pregnancy results due to fertilization of ovum.

During first time menstruation, females are not aware of their ovulation time, but ovulation already occur by this period i,e 14 days before the first period.During this period,if unprotected sex occurs then pregnancy is possible due to already available ovum.

So to finalise, pregnsncy would only be possible around 14 days before first period, not months before period. This would happen around the age of 8-16 on average. Would this be correct ?
