Question: can a tension type headache be associated with gastritis?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Prasad J (59 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes...

Detailed Answer:
I am not sure if you wanted to post this question as a follow up to another doctor, but since I received it as a fresh question I choose to answer it.

Yes, gastritis can lead to or worsen chronic headache which includes tension type headache. Further the stressors that cause gastritis may be the same factors that cause tension headache. So definitely there is an association between gastritis and headaches.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Brief Answer:
Body aches and weakness unlikely from gastritis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

My comments are as follows:
1. Body aches and generalised weakness are unrelated to gastritis. Perhaps those are related to your medicines or anxiety. Without a physical examination I am unable to name the definitive cause.

2. Long term medicine especially aspirin and pain medicine are known to cause gastritis. However as you are unsure please explain why you feel you have gastritis. May be you can explain the symptoms historically with the duration. We can plan the treatment accordingly.

3. CT scan did not reveal anything seriously alarming. The benign nature was further indicated/confirmed by biopsy. I hope you have no more enquiries about this topic.

Awaiting your response...

Brief Answer:
Tension headaches can be kept supressed...

Detailed Answer:
Tension headache can be kept suppressed with prophylactic medication and life style change. The key is to keep yourself free from stressors and anxiety. Rivotril is a good anxiolytic and this may help you prevent headaches. If it hasn't you could discuss with your doctor for alternatives.

As far as gastritis is concerned, yes those abdominal complaints seems like related. I would try treating you with a course of proton pump inhibitors along with life style change (regular diet; spice free food and adequate sleep) before referring you to a gastroenterologist for endoscopies.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications/further information.

last night i took starch with orange softdrink. felt well stomach. occipital area felt warm and temporal area. did not take rivotril. bp this morning is normal. can you look on this?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Prasad J (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Warm sensation seems to be non specific..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Though I have heard people recommending cornstarch to treat gastritis, I am not very well aware of its benefits and I do not use it in clinical practice. I am glad you felt better after taking it.

Now the warm sensation over the occipital and temporal area does not point towards a serious condition. However the skipped dose (rivotril) may have triggered it.

Rivotril is more an anxiolytic than blood pressure controlling drug. It will be better if you strictly adhere with rivotril use instructions. Your doctor prescribed this anxiolytic drug since he/she deems it necessary. I will recommend you follow their instructions. Anxiety may be the cause of those sensory disturnbance.

the warm sensation is actually making me feel better. tried walking around and no dizzy or temporarily no dizzy feeling.

Answered by Dr. Dr. Prasad J (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Monitor the progress....

Detailed Answer:
Based on the details provided I am unable to identify the cause of warmth or the dizziness. But the role of medicines and anxiety should be carefully considered.

If you are feeling better, it isn't a bad idea to keep a keen watch on how you feel in the next couple of hours or say a day. If things don't improve, call your doctor. Having said that, I will not agree to skipping medicines unless the role of medicines is proved by the treating doctor.

Let me know if you need clarifications.

can rivotril damage stomach?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Prasad J (39 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Listed to cause gastritis..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Rivotril is listed to cause gastrointestinal complaints. However those symptoms are not very common. Since you are on aspirin daily, it is most likely the cause than rivotril.

can a calcified superior turbinate cause moderate to severe headaches? how about ethmoid sinusitis?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Prasad J (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Calcified superior turbinate is a scan finding...

Detailed Answer:
This calcified superior turbinate is a CT scan finding. It doesn't seem to be the cause of headaches unless the calcified mass is blocking sinus cavity.
Similarly ethmoidal sinusitis can also produce headaches.

i can breath clearly in both nostrils
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Prasad J (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Sinusitis may or may not be clinically significant

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Blocked nostrils are more commonly seen among with frontal or maxillary sinusitis. Nevertheless, it's good that you do not have blocked nostrils.

I am not very sure if ethmoidal sinusitis is clinically significant as your lone complaint is headache. You can discuss with your examining doctor about the cause.
