Can I Get Pregnant At My Fifties?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: Good Morning!, I am 50 years old. 3 grown healthy kids. My GI told me I couldn't get pregnant at age 48, though I am have been having a 28 day cycle. I am on day 42, no period. About 2.5 weeks ago I went for my yearly. It was a new doc/ he could not find my cervix. I was mystified. Never had that happen. I am fatigued, feel bloated and seem to have an increased appetite. I kept telling myself that I am going through menopause, but now am beginning to wonder if i am pregnant? I have Crohne's disease, which is in remission but I take humira and methotrexate. With my disease, I feel healthy, I walk, watch what I eat and lead an active life. I feel excited, scared and that everyone in my life will think I am an idiot. Feedback? thank you!

Brief Answer: laboratory tests to confirm menopause. Detailed Answer: A very good morning mam, welcome to health care magic. I also believe you can't be pregnant at the age of 48, but to be sure about menopause setting in get certain laboratory tests viz - FSH - SERUM ESTRADIOL - URINE PREGNANCY TEST (UPT) UPT will rule out the remote possibility of pregnancy so that you can be free from anxiety. The reason for not being able to find your cervix can be the menopause induced atrophy of genital organs which is common. Methotrexate can also cause premature menopause and also the bloated feeling in abdomen. To be concise you need to get the laboratory tests mentioned above and then visit your gynecologist for further prescription if any is required according to test results. Hope I have answered your questions and in case you have any query I will be happy to help. Take care
