Can I Have Doxycycline Along With Nitrofurantoin?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Aug 2014
Question: I am taking a 10 day course of doxycycline for sinusitis and a chest infection. I also have frequent uti's
and was taking a preventative nightly dose of nitrofurantoin for this.
I stopped the nitro when I started the doxy 10 days ago.
I now have a uti. Can I start a full course of nitro while taking doxy ( which I have at home)
Ie is there any adverse reaction between the two drugs?

Brief Answer:
may take

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

You may take doxycycline with nitrofurontoin . These both drugs are unlikely to interact with each other.

You may get abdominal discomfort and bloating because of gastritis. I would suggest you to take ppi like omeprazole to avoid gastritis.

If you develop severe nausea or vomiting or abdominal pain etc you need to consult your doctor immediately.

Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
