Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I recieved a major heart attack on 10 feb 2015. My current age is 28 yrs, 10 months.
I have one drug eluting stent placed in the artery.
Current medications : Ecospirin, Brillinta, Novastat, Starpress @ daily
The current Ejection fraction checked out on 21st May was only 34%. I had Myocardial Infarction and the doctor said that Heart has suffered a considerable damage. There was 100% blockage in the main artery for almost 4 hours which cause a major damaged to the cells in the Left Ventricle.
I used to work out a lot and gym is my passion. I would like to ask u (1) Whether I can start with light weights(moderate exercise), pull ups and chin ups. I tried couple of times and did'nt faced any problem or discomfort. But would like to consult before proceeding. (2)Also is Yoga involving vigorous breathing exercises advisable with a weak heart.(3) Is there any homeopathic or other treatment available to accelerate the regeneration of dead cardiac cells, so that EF may shoot up to the normal level? (4) How is heavy weight lifting related to cardiac risk ?

Brief Answer:
You should get your exercise stress test done

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am Dr.Rajesh Teli,MD.
I have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.
I shall answer your queries one by one.
1.you should get exercise stress test done before planning your exercise programme.you should avoid resistant training and gymnastics.weight lifting must be avoided as it increases after load and may harm weak heart.walking is best exercise for you.Brisk walk for 30 min .you should also avoid pranayams like kapal XXXXXXX and bhrastika.
2.scientifically it is observed that if we open artery after 4 hours of onset of attack, part of heart is irreversibly damaged. But many a times nature gives result.there are no homeopathic or any alternative medicine to improve weak heart.you should get your echo repeated after six months of PTCA.there may be some improvement.
3.even with LVEF of 34% you will have normal quality of life.
I would be interested to know your exercise stress test report.I suggest you to get serum Homocystine level done if not checked.
My best wishes
Dr.Rajesh Teli,MD.

Hello Doctor,
Can U recommend me from where I can do stress test . I mean from which hospital or clinic in NCR. Also :
(1)If the stress test result is good and if I am able to do push ups and pull ups without cluttering my teeth and holding my breath. In other words I only perform limited repetitions without much effort. Then can i do it in a controlled manner ?
Will it still be harmfull? Is it a permanent limitation I am stuck with throughout my life. is there any way I can overcome it. I mean exercising is my passion . I used to do 7000 rounds of skipping rope @ a continious stretch of 30 mins without stopping.
Hence if there is an iota of chance I would like to take it.
But still I dont want to follow any madness. Therefore if it is scientifically feasable then only I would give it a shot. Otherwise not
