Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.

In my opinion repetition of urine pregnancy test after a week might be a good option.

I would like to know the following things for better suggestions:-
1)What is your height, age and weight?
2)Are your cycles every 35 days or irregular? If so since how many days?
3)Any throid or other hormone abnormalities detected?
4)Are you trying for pregnancy?
5)How many years of marital life?
Kindly provide me the information.
Looking forward to hear from you.

Hello doctor, I'm 27, 51kilos, 5'4", my period cycle has been regular for the past few months. Maybe a day or two off but nothing more. This time I'm late by 8 days. I'm not on any medication, don't have any thyroid problems, and I'm not trying for pregnancy. I wanted to know if I should wait a little longer or if I should take regestrone 10mg for 3 days? I can't afford to be pregnant at the moment. I took a test this morning and it was negative too. This happened to me two years ago too and I took regestrone at the time. And started 3 days later. I'm allergic to penicillin. Please help!

Brief Answer:
The pregnancy test should be repeated

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information.I understand your concern.
It is good to know that you dont have any hormonal abnormalities and your height and weight are appropriate and the cycles are regular.
The normal cycle length varies from 21-35 days.
The missed period in a regularly menstruating woman needs to rule out pregnancy first before going for other options.
Usually a pregnancy test gives accurate results after a week of missed period.
I suggest you to repeat the test after a week or 10 days to confirm.
If it is still negative the delay in period might be due to hormonal imbalance to stress or work load etc.
Then rogesterone tablets might be taken under your local doctors supervision.
But if the irregular periods continue the thyroid abnormalities and PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) ,any stress to be ruled out.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
Best regards...Dr.srilatha

doctor, how long after sexual intercourse will the pregnancy test show positive, if it is? I was sexually active on the 20th of last month. and its been 3 weeks since then. If I was pregnant, wouldn't it show up by now? nothing makes any sense. my breasts are sensitive and a little sore, so far thats the only pre menstrual symptom I've had. I'll do another pregnancy test in a few days. I just need to figure out why this is happening. Thank you so much for replying. really appreciate it. but please do answer my question.

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query.I understand your concern.
In my opinion ovulation occurs 14 days before the period. The lifespan of ovum is 12-24 hours. So if the intercourse is done during that period there is chance for pregnancy. So roughly the test might be positive after 3 weeks ie.,14 days after ovulation and one week after missed period during which the hormone responsible for positive pregnancy test raises.
So as you are 8 days late with negative pregnancy test and you were sexually active on 20 th the chances of pregnancy might be rare.
But the important thing is pregnancy is the first thing to be ruled out in case of missed period in a regularly menstruating woman. That is why the repetition of test is advised.
The delay might be due to hormonal imbalance due to physical or mental strain.Even the thought of pregnancy might also delay the period due to stress.
So relax and wait for spontaneous onset of period and if no period do a urine pregnancy test after a week. Do the test with first morning urine sample for accurate results.
Hope this satisfies your query.
