Question : I have hasimoto's and have been taken synthroid for a decade. I am almost bald, depressed, and fatigued. I want to quite synthroid and take CYTOMEL. What is recommended CYTOMEL by itself, or in conjunction with Amour or synthroid?

Cytomel is a synthetic form of T3 hormone which is produced from the thyroid gland.

It can be used on its own. Normally your doctor would suggest discontinuing the other hormone replacement and starting the cytomel at a low dose, increasing till there is an appropriate response.

This medication has rapid onset of action which is likely because it has been noted that it is absorbed very quickly from the gastrointestinal tract. In some persons this can result in higher thyroid hormone levels than expected.

It is a viable option for thyroid hormone replacement. You and your doctor can discuss it to see if it would be helpful to you.
