Why do you need to take this medicine night before any procedure/colonoscopy? What are your symptoms?

Is the colonoscopy going to be done under general anaesthesia or sedation? The two components of this medicines - Phenylephrine and Dextromethorphan has its side effects on heart and brain hence better avoided before surgery/any procedures and anaesthesia.
