Can I Take Emergency Contraceptive Pill Within 5 Day Timeframe Of Sexual Intercourse?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: I was told by Planned Parenthood that I can take XXXXXXX today, even though I took Plan B 58 hours ago (Saturday morning I took Plan B, now it is Monday night). If I take XXXXXXX soon, it will be still within the 5 day required timeframe. This was decided because I am overweight, and studies show Plan B is much less effective for someone of my weight. Preventing pregnancy is extremely important, so here is my question - can I trust Planned Parenthood on this? A pharmacist told me that it is NOT recommended to take these so close together, but the nurse at Planned Parenthood said it was perfectly ok and also important to prevent pregnancy. Which one is the correct answer? Need to know soon, thanks.
Also, yes, I am aware I should be on birth control for the future. That will be tended to. Right now I am only concerned about preventing pregnancy from an incident that occurred Thursday night (4 days ago).

Brief Answer:
You can take XXXXXXX even after taking Plan-B.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Yes, you can take XXXXXXX emergency contraceptive pill within 5 days frame, even after taking Plan B 58 hours ago. It will give extra protection against unwanted pregnancy.

You will get a withdrawal bleeding like period within 5-7 days after taking that pill. However, your next period may be delayed for 1 - 2 weeks due to hormonal imbalance.

Hope, it helps for your information. Use regular contraceptive pill in future. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query. Good luck.

Regards,
