Can I Try Homeopathic Treatment For Alopecia Barbae?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: I have Alopecia Barbae. I found out about this 7 weeks back. And started medication 4 weeks back.

I don't know if I need to try something else. Should i try Homeopathy or Ayurvedic medicine?
Also, any particular foods i should not eat.
Is there a test to find out what suits me and is aggravating my auto immune condition?

Is there a follicular test that can be done anywhere in the world to check if follicles are still alive?

Does exclamation mark hair surely indicate that all those place i will be losig hair for sure before they come back?

Brief Answer:
Ayurveda management &Trichologist Opinion

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and going through your diagnosis of (Alopecia barbae) do let me know:

1. Since Tinea barbae is FUNGAL infection of beard was the same ruled out by a dermatologist or not?

2. Was there any fungal transmission through direct contact:
. with infected persons
. animals,soil or fomites.?

3. Treatment of tinea capitis and tinea barbae remains the same

4. Oral therapy is preferred over topical treatment since the involved hair follicles do not respond well to topical therapy.

You can start incorporating following dietary regime:

A.
1.  Proteins are essential for antibodies production so milk, egg (white), beans, yogurt, soymilk, pumpkin, squash, watermelon, peanuts, almonds, if non-vegetarian (meat) are choices.

2.  mango, carrots, cantaloupe, egg yolk, apricots, pumpkin, papaya, are ideal

3. Vitamin C: is needed for proper functioning of immune system: amla is good option.

4. Vitamin E: is a powerful anti oxidant thus peanuts, dried apricots, cooked spinach, taro root can be taken

B.
Do’s and Don’ts:

Take: old brown rice, green gram/red lentil, split red gram/, garlic, cucumber, old ghee, nimb taila, gomutra, amla, pomegranate, haldi.

Avoid: newly harvested rice, radish, milk, curd, heavy/constipating/cold food, day time sleeping, excess physical exertion.

. Do not share personnel belongings
. After bath, make sure to dry the skin completely.
. Avoid using oily skin products.
. Limit exposure to the sun, since increased sweating causes worsening of infection.
. Wear cotton cloth, which absorbs the sweat and moisture.

5. Have you taken any Ayurveda medicine or herb for your present situation, if yes do let me know about the same to prevent any doubling of drug.

6. Are you using any topical lotion (natural/home made) for tinea barbae.

7. Since it is an Autoimmune, self limiting reversible condition thus check with your Thyroid test and Avoid STRESS and take Biotin tablets (10 mg) daily

8. Since there is no single test (ideal or feasable) to identify problems with hair loss thus consulting and examining with a TRICHOLOGIST is best option who will explain concerns regarding available hair follicle test and about its viability (exclamation).

Doc, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have taken the steroid injection and cream. its been only 3 weeks. soon i will go for next round of injection. and continue with allopathy for 2-3 months more.

The other thing is i started Ayurvedic just 4-5 days back. it's called Baba ramdev tablets for alopecia.

My doc said its not Tinea babae, although i feel i had a bad rash and was scratching my beard 2-3 months back, maybe it was just a weak eczema that caused the rash but even that could cause hair fall. I don't we can find that out now. it's too late.

If i see 'exclamation mark hairs' then doctor dermatogolist says its alopecia for sure so i am going with that.

coming back to ayurveda, i am taking this

**** XXXXXXX kayakalp vati - 2 before food
ingredients are:
Cassia Tora
Berberis Aristata
Caesalpinia bonducella
Emblica offcinalis
Picrohiza kurroa
Argemone mexicana
Azadirachta indica - neem
Tinospora cordifolia
Rubia cordifolia
Swertia chirata
Leucas cephalotes
Acacia Catechu

**** Arogyavardhini Vati
and

**** Tinospora cordifolia

Brief Answer:
Immunomodulation Treatment

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back

1. High level of IgE means that your immune system is reacting to everything and since you are allergy prone thus could be one of the reason [history of eczema was there]

PS. In study conducted by 'Department of Dermatovenereology, Sarajevo University Clinical Center Bolnicka 28, 71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina' Serum levels of IgE were measured using fluoroenzyme immunoassay techniques and total IgE were significantly higher in AA patients than in controls The exact role of serum IgE in AA should be additionally investigated in future studies.

2. But prior to this, one should look for other causes of hair loss, i.e. low hemoglobin, not getting enough protein in the diet, thyroid deficiency, stress.

3. you may try the following:

a. Make a paste of Hasti dant masi [available with grocery shops] and rasont [concentrated extract of berberis species] in goat’s milk and apply on affected area.

b. take fruit of amla, baheda fruit, harad fruit, pulp of XXXXXXX seed, old mandur: take all these contents and after mixing them put them overnight in an iron pan and apply on patch the next morning.

PS. Using it for the first time, might result in slight reddening of the area [local reaction/irritation], and may continue with subsequent application [need not to worry]

4. Following drug therapy is best suited to your condition, do let me know which of the following is/are available at your home town so that dosage and drug combination can be made:

. Ras manikya, gandhak rasayan, panch nimbadi churan, chalmogra tail, marichadi taila, mahatikta ghrita, suprinova capsules

5. Arogyavardhini vati and Tinospora cordifolia are Immunomodulators i.e. which corrects the dysfunction of tissues without disturbing the functions of normal tissues, and also potentiates humoral antibodies, by increasing serum Immunoglobulin’s such as IgA,IgG and IgM.

6. Take Brahmi vati, jatamansi, shankhpushpi which are best nootropic drugs to reduce stress.

7. Detoxification [Panchkarma] Treatment esp. 'Pratimarsha Nasya' is effective in preventing baldness and premature greying of hair

PS. As explained earlier, Oral therapy is preferred over topical treatment since the involved hair follicles do not respond well to topical therapy.

Brief Answer:
Clinical Judgement is required

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back

1. Since it is said that proteins are required for antibodies production as such milk/yogurt is mentioned since in some they work good but in some they accelerate the process of hair loss.

PS. moreover as said earlier treatment of tinea capitis and tinea barbae is similar, BUT thing to remember is that hair loss of head is more [thus avoid dairy products which are responsible for male pattern baldness] and beard loss is minimal [one can take in minimal amount]

2. best thing to get the medicines is to buy them Online, since same procedure will be adopted by your family.
